I was trying to create a (very) large Datastore on VMWare vSphere 4.1 but although VMWare correctly identifies the LUN on my SAN it refuses to create the Datastore and gives me this error:
Call “HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions” for object “ha-datastoresystem” on ESX “<IP of ESX>” failed.
The strange thing is that VMWare detects the partition and identifies the correct size (2,18 TB in this case):
It seems though that VMWare is simply unable to handle such a large partition as the error is not present on smaller partitions.

Hi Remko, did you find a solution.. I have the same issue on two ESX 4.1 servers with an MSA2312i Storage. My volume is 2.18 TB also…
kind regards,
Carlo
@Carlo: Yes, make the volumes smaller 😀
Sorry but it’s the only thing you can do: create multiple volumes. The maximum size is 2TB – 512 Kb I think.
Hello, i am having the same error but when the VC shows i only have 1 GB but in netapp, it shows 1.81TB. This is Thin lun btw. Any idea how to do it?
